"Courbis owns 1 hectare of young (now 18 year old) Syrah vines in the town of Pont d'Isere, at the southern limit of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. The sloping vineyard has a thin, stony topsoil with scattered large stones (galets roulés) over a clay sub-soil. The fruit is harvested by hand, destemmed, and vinified in temperature controlled, stainless steel tanks. The vatting period lasts for 2 weeks. Two-thirds of the Crozes-Hermitage is aged in tanks and one-third in two-year old barrels. The aging period is one year before bottling. 500 cases are made. It is sappy wine with crunchy licorice tinged, black-berry fruit and a fresh finish."
Our Resident Sommelier Eduardo Dingler Says...
"Nothing says fall like this gem, holiday spice, with tones of Grapefruit, star anise, forest floor and a redeeming acidity that leaves you wanting more. This is a one of a kind opportunity to start your Thanksgiving planing, enjoy it by the fire place while putting your guest list together and then share it with friends and family at the dinner table. It will shine with every dish that Fall calls for, stew, Turkey, Ham, you name it."
