“The 2019 Pinot Noir Chimera Vineyard, Capiaux’s largest-production bottling, is delicious this vintage and a great value. Medium ruby, it’s intensely scented of raspberry liqueur, blood orange, licorice, iron and earth. The full-bodied palate is plush, silky and open with generous, spicy fruits and a very long finish. It was aged 11 months in 10% new French oak.”
“2019 offered a second chance for stunning quality in Sonoma, despite late-season wildfires toward the end of October; and overall, quality is more consistent this vintage…Yields were down from the prolific 2018 vintage but were still above average, and there are a few dilute wines. 2019 wasn’t a challenge-free vintage, but where controlled yields, precise harvest dates and discerning winemakers coalesced, gorgeous wines were the result.”
